my craftastic journey began at conception, i'm pretty sure. i think i came out singing and dancing actually. i have always been into artistic endeavors, from journal making to theater to all kinds of music. the list is endless. however, i've always been into it as more of a hobby than a career.
while being a therapist is certainly creative and artistic in its own way, doing it as a career means it's still a job. one concept we talk a lot about is self-care. this means the things we do that make us wholistically healthy, fully functioning individuals. this can be anything that is life giving. exercise, good food, sleeping, singing, reading, skydiving, you name it. everyone needs a balance of experiences in life in which they are primarily giving, and in which they are primarily receiving.
for me, this means being crafty, creative, and artsy. it is my therapy. it energizes me, challenges me, and makes me feel alive. it is the perfect way for me to process my thoughts, feelings, issues, experiences, etc.
over my christmas break, i made accessories with my sister. here are a few pieces i particularly love:
if you don't know what you do for self-care, it's time to start paying attention. where do you get your energy from? if you are an extrovert, being with people energizes you. if you are an introvert like me, you'll need time alone to feel rejuvenated. neither is right or wrong, just simply how you were made. knowing yourself will make you a happier, more well-adjusted person. it will also help you know what you need to be healthy.
so...what do you do for self-care?
